What inspired you to write#DamagedButNOTDead?
Before my grandpa passed, he would always tell me I needed to start my book. Ughh about what? I didn’t think my story was worth telling, until eight years later I just stepped out and started writing.
Which chapter in the book is your favorite and why?
I have a section called #Testimony8/29/19 where I talk about how after 16 years of having to drive without my shoe on, I decided to try to drive with my shoe on home. That was so monumental to me, because I never thought I would be able to say I drove with a shoe on. I was just over taking it on and and off every time I got in the car. That was a huge faith move and I can say I haven’t turned back yet.
Give us an interesting fun fact about your book?
My chapters are hashtags. I wanted to switch it up a little from the typical format.
Describe your book in three words?
Authentic, funny and intriguing.
What part of writing do you personally find most satisfying and most challenging?
The most satisfying is when I’m in my flow and I can’t stop writing until I get my thoughts on paper. The most challenging is starting. I have a hard time starting to write.
If 2020 was a book, what would its title be?
“Well, here we are”.
What song brings back the most memories?
“Currency” by Remidi. I had that song on repeat everyday during my radiation treatments. It was what got me through.
If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, past or present, who would you choose?
I’d say Oprah. I’d love to just get in her head and get insight on how she became the woman she is today.
What is one thing you miss from your childhood?
Being carefree. I miss not having to worry about a walker or being in pain.

Yes, all of them! Every experience that I’ve faced from chemo to a sprained ankle has altered my life in some way.
