How did you discover your passion for music?

Singing with my family is how I discovered my passion for music.  I had gone from singing at church to singing in the ”Renaissance Madrigal Choir” in high school.  Which allowed me to love and appreciate all types of music.

What was your favorite artist growing up?

Mariah Carey, Kim Burrell and Darryl Coley were my favs, because of their approach to singing.  Vocal acrobats and stylistic singing always sparked my soul.

What are some of the difficulties of the music business?

Stability was one of my struggles, I’ve been blessed to always be booked.  But when promoters or event coordinators decide not to pay right away or funds become all of the sudden exhausted.  I had to learn the hard way.  I’ve been working at a church with a salary and benefits for 11 years to help supplement my income and remove this issue.

What are your music goals for 2020?

My music goals for 2020 are to release “V•Angel”, my soul album.  I will also be launching a new clothing line and starting online vocal lessons through my “Vincent Powell Vocal Studio” program.

How has your life changed since you appeared on American Idol?

I’ve been working in music industry since 2001, being on idol has definitely help me get in doors that might have otherwise been closed.  Performing on a world stage has landed me performances with President Bush and Family in several cities and a residency with Samsung in Seoul/ Jeju, South Korea.  I thank God for American Idol and Fremantle Ent.

Any upcoming projects coming up that you would like to share with readers?

I have a new Soul/ R&B record coming out titled “V•Angel”.  It’s extremely personal to me, I really wanted to signify a rebellious spirt mixed with unending loyalty, honor and protective instincts in this album.  “V•Angel” is the one you do not see in the shadows, but feel in your heart.  I also have a summer tour starting in Moscow, Russia and end in Seoul, Korea.

Who is the greatest musician of all time?

It’s hard to pick just one, some of my favorites include Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett and Lenny Williams.

Where was your favorite place to go as a child?

My favorite place to go when I was a child was amusement parks with my family.  My dad (retired veteran) took us to amusement parks around the US ( DisneyLand/ Disney World/ Six Flags).

Name one interesting talent you have or something we don’t know about you?

The talent people don’t know that I have is being a comedian / being in comedy.  I love to make people laugh.  I’ve always wanted to be on a sitcom or TV show, where I was able to do comedy or showcase that funny side.

What must be seen or experienced in person to really appreciate it?

My live performances have been called “An experience”.  I love performing and breaking down songs, so that the audience can go on the journey with me.

What’s the single most important thing you have done in your life?
