The Los Angeles Sparks defeated the Atlanta Dream 76-71 in overtime. The Sparks led 32-30 at halftime and 50-49 at the end of the 3rd quarter. This was a back and forth game with 11 lead changes and being tied 9 times. Chelsea Gray made a fadeaway with the shot clock winding down and great defense being played by Tiffany Hayes to take the lead 64-62 with 5.3 seconds left.
The next possession Tiffany Hayes drove straight to the basket and made a layup to tie the game 64-64 with 1.0 seconds left. Riquna Williams missed the game winning three pointer and sent the game in overtime. Williams made two three-pointers in overtime and the second one gave the Sparks the lead for good. Hayes made two free throws to cut the lead to 72-71 with 1:06 left and Nneka Ogwumike made a layup with 47.5 seconds left to go up 74-71.
Ogwumike got a double-double and finished with 17 points, 15 rebounds and 3 steals. Williams led the Sparks in scoring with 23 points. Hayes had a game-high 24 points to go with 4 assists and 4 rebounds. Monique Billings had 9 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. These two teams play each other again next week and the Dream will have this game circled on their calendar.
