Working Woman Wednesday. Interview With Singer/Songwriter Drea Nicole.

Did you always know music was something you wanted to pursue?

I always knew I wanted to create.  I started as a writer first, with poems that went to lyrics as I got older.  Honestly, I thought that I was going to be a nurse.  Then the music kept calling me.

What was your favorite artist growing up?

I have a few, but Janet Jackson and Mary J. Blige are my absolute favorites.  I like 70’s R&B as well, so Chaka Khan and Patti LaBelle are also big favorites.

How do you feel about the internet in the music business?

The internet has changed the music business.  It put a lot of power in the artist hands which is a good and bad thing.  It’s good for the artist who is really about their business and craft.  Since it is open to anyone, its saturated with so many people that it is hard for the good to really be found.

What would be your dream venue to perform at?

Barclays Center, gotta give it to Brooklyn.

Any upcoming projects coming up that you would like to share with readers?

I am working on completing my LP entitled “Beautifully Scarred”, that features the already released single “Are U Ready” which is available on all streaming platforms.  I am also the North East Regional Representative for Sky IV Records, where we are a resource for independence artist in getting some of the back office stuff of being an artist.  I also have a body contouring business called Pink Fiya Beauty, where I do Laser Lipo, Muscle Stimulation, Non-Invasive Butt Lifting, Eyelash Extensions, etc.

What are the three most used apps on your phone?

Gmail, Instagram and Google Calendar.

If money and time were not factors, what new skill would you love to learn?

Physical therapist, I just like helping people.

What local attraction would you recommend we visit if we made a trip to your hometown?

If you come when the weather is nice, you have to go to Coney Island Amusement Park (Luna Park).  There is a lot of history there, great rides or you can chill with locals on the beach and boardwalk.

What three places would you love to travel to?

Barbados, Paris and London.

What role does family play in your life?

My family plays a huge role in my life, before my mom passed, she was my biggest supporter at every show.  Although she is gone, I still feel her presence at every show.  Then my children are my rocks, Isaiah, Kevin and Frank.  They hold me down when I have to travel, they are my sound boards when I create new music, they are my stylist at times, lol.  They really keep me grounded.  Also, my cousins Maurice and Naomi, they really have had my back since the passing of my mom, making sure I don’t go crazy.

What’s something everyone should experience at least once in their life?

Everyone should experience something that takes you out of your comfort zone, because it’s only when we get uncomfortable, we grow.

How can everyone keep in contact with you on social media?
