Shout Out Sunday. Interview With Celebrity Trainer Eren Legend

What inspired you to become a Celebrity Personal Trainer?

I had always been a very athletic person growing up.  Having two older brothers who both were heavily involved in sports set the path for me to prioritize physical activity.  As my oldest brother was in the process of becoming a Registered Massage Therapist, he used to leave anatomy books opened around the house.  I frequently would read these books and became fascinated with how the human body is truly the ultimate machine and tool.  While in high school I started to really become more consistent with working out and I stopped playing sports as much as I had been before.  Some of my friends had noticed that I was making progress, this led me to skip school oftentimes and find myself at the gym training.  Upon graduation, I was still unsure of what I wanted to do for a career.  I had enrolled in Business Administration, however dropped out in the first semester to pursue Fitness and Health.  I believe that although my grades weren’t the best in business administration, I would be able to really excel in the world of fitness.  It was something that I was passionate about and was a focused interest.  At this time, I had to move from one end of the city to the other.  I lived two blocks away from the most elite Private Professional Fitness and Health Consulting studio in Ottawa.  They had given me an opportunity to work there which was an honor and honestly destiny.  I had not yet graduated in my college program and had already secured a job in my field.  Over the years I have coached over 6,000 + clients, some of these include professional athletes, children and even celebrities.

What three exercises have contributed the most to building your physique?

The top three exercises I would say that have contributed to my physique have been Barbell Bicep Curl, Flat Barbell Bench Press and Bent Over Barbell Rows.  I enjoy performing Bicep curls with a barbell because of the increased stress and strain it puts on your muscles.  The Flat Barbell Bench Press is a staple in any bodybuilding regime.  Bent Over Barbell Rows are an incredible exercise to engage and strengthen the full posterior chain of muscles.

What are your top three healthy habits?

I like to perform my training while in a fasted state.  This means I do not consume any calories outside of water and freshly juice lemon before performing exercise. This puts my body in a state where it is consuming body fat for energy and allows me to maintain a lean physique all year round! I like to eat clean cheats, as I call them.  To give an example, late at night if I have cravings, I will eat an apple with natural organic peanut butter.  Train every day.  Although people claim “overtraining” can be a thing that impairs progress. I have personally experimented with this myself, as well as my clients in the past and this theory has been disproven.  It is possible to work out every single day without impairing progress and growth.

As a business owner, what are your top three priorities?

As a business owner my top priority is to ensure that my clients are getting the services that they paid for.  I collaborate with multiple businesses and brands and own multiple businesses too. Another priority for me is to ensure that I am constantly creating innovative ideas.  I believe all the things have been done time and time again and in some cases even overdone.  Opportunities are something that are a high priority for me. With the Legend Fitted brand I wanted to ensure that I was able to provide an opportunity for my friends to become models as well.  I love being in a position where I can elect friends to shoot for the Legend Fitted apparel line and give them their moments too.

What is a typical day/week like for you?

My days are always pretty much the same.  When was a competitive athlete it was a little more chaotic, yet the structure and regimen had to come first above all other pursuits.  Now, typically upon awakening I will answer a multitude of phone calls and emails.  Engage and interact with my fans on social media, perform a workout while in a fasted state, thereafter I will train clients in person or online and following that I will eat my first meal sometime in the mid-afternoon, if not by the evening while completing more phone calls & emails and even working on some designs for Legend Fitted Apparel.

Best TV show of all time?

This is a tough one.  I generally like TV shows that have a lot of suspense or thrill.  I can’t necessarily state what the best TV show of all time is, but currently I love the TV show Power!

What is the number one philosophy you live by?

“Nothing prepares you more for life than living it”, this here is a philosophy that I created myself.  It resonates deeply with me simply because it absolves us of any pressure or expectation.  I love this philosophy and I remind myself of it daily as I am on my journey. Simply living in the moment and going with the flow, while still having a trajectory is something that I think will bring a lot of relief to people if they can grasp this concept.

If you could make a rule for a day and everyone had to follow it, what would it be?

Honesty, I would ensure that everyone has to be honest for one day.  We are all trying to present a better version of ourselves or trying to advance one step closer to our goals in life.  I think if we are all honest with each other, as well as honest with ourselves we would be able to make the world a better place!

What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?

I personally believe that everyone should enter into a physique competition.  Although I don’t agree with a lot of the politics in the industry, I can say that the knowledge and body awareness that I was able to attain through doing so has been paramount.  It has created lifestyle changes that I will carry for the rest of time.  It can be executed a multitude of ways, however I always encouraged the healthiest approach.

If you could meet any historical figure, who would you choose and why?

I would love to meet Tupac Shakur.  To think that this man has accomplished so much, platinum records, being in movies, leading movements for change.  He did all of this all before he died at the young age of 25 years old.  I truly consider him a leader of many sorts.

What’s an alternative life you might have lived, had you made different decisions?

Had I not moved to Toronto I would not have been able to fulfill my full potential.  I recall living in Ottawa having earned the World Champion title.  I truly thought that my life would change and I would be getting all kinds of endorsements from this event.  Nothing seemed to happen and any company I reached out to would tell me that I would need to move to Toronto or they wouldn’t take me seriously.  This was very discouraging and upon this I started to notice I had become very irritable living in Ottawa that I was not achieving my purpose.  I can’t even imagine where my life would be now if I never moved to Toronto.  I probably would be working some 9 to 5 job, nothing against it, I know that it’s just not for me.  I live by a saying that I coined which goes as followed…

“Should have, could have, would have.  It’s easy to obsess about the things in your life that AREN’T, however we should really focus and be grateful on things that ARE in our life! If you can say, that within this present moment, you are at peace…That is all that matters.”
