Working Woman Wednesday. Interview With KM Loungewear & Accessories Owner.

What inspired you to start your lingerie business?

What inspired me to start my lingerie business, was when I was working for a company selling sex toys and other bedroom accessories.  The company provided lingerie also, but there were no women in the catalog that looked like me (African-American) nor were the pieces up to my liking.  So one day I decided to start my lingerie line and cater to women of all races and body sizes.  I started this business back in 2017 while being active duty Air Force.  I encountered a financial hardship while being in the military and struggled for a while.  For maybe a month or so I kept hearing this voice tell me to start my business.  It was me thinking it was impossible with what I was going through financially, I kept putting it off.  One day that voice screamed at me so loud I couldn’t ignore it.  So I took the last $20.00 I had to my name, with all my bills paid over drafted my account and purchased inventory (If you can avoid starting a business this way avoid it).  I presented my inventory on Facebook to people in my hometown and it did well.  Until one day a post of mine went viral, I didn’t have a website and I remember sending invoices to customers.  Some purchased, some didn’t, forcing me to start a website with so little time.  By doing that some people thought it was a scam.  I’ve had some good days with my business and I’ve had some bad days.  I have lost mainly most of the support from my hometown, but gained so much support from others elsewhere.  But I didn’t it knock me off my focus and because of that, KMLA is still standing and getting better every day.

For a first-time buyer, what items would you recommend to purchase from your website?

Some of my favorite looks I would recommend to a first time buyer would be the Black Chyna Lingerie set.  For lounging I would recommend either the 2 piece sets or the onesies.

What is unique about your lingerie?

My lingerie is edgy and different! I have looks for everyone and most looks you will not find in your average retail stores.

What has been your greatest professional success and biggest setback?

My greatest professional success would starting my business.  The biggest setback I have come across I would say, being a one person business at the moment.  I am looking to create a team in the near future.

What do you want your supporters to know about you?

I want my supporters to know that I care about them, I am trying to provide them with the best top quality customer service and lingerie.  I want them to get that burst of confidence every time they put on a KMLA piece, because it is not for the weak !

Picnic in the park or dinner at a restaurant?

A picnic in the park for sure.  I love sitting outside enjoying a good breeze and sunlight.

Personal chef or personal fitness trainer?

Can I chose both, lol.  I would go with the personal chef, because I looove food.  I would have to have the personal trainer on speed dial to get me back into shape.

What should every woman try at least once in her life?

Every woman should try a massage at least once.  It’s something about a massage that leaves your body feeling stress free and brand new!

The CD I would chose would be the Tupac “All Eyez on Me” album.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grow up?

I wanted to be a doctor. but as I got older I definitely wanted to be an entrepreneur.

What do you wish you had in school that kids have today?
