Why did you choose to become a Chef?
To be completely honest I didn’t want to become a chef until I got in high school. I thought I would be a doctor. But as I got older my love and passion for food became greater. It came to me so easy. Once I started becoming more invested in the culinary world my fascination grew. I’m a chef now, because I love the art of plating and being able to express myself on my plate.
What is your favorite cuisine to cook?
Southern comfort food is my favorite cuisine to cook. Growing up my mom would cook a dinner for me and my sister every night. We would have fried chicken or fish and grits. But on Sundays, it was a full experience. We would have oxtails, collard greens, ham, macaroni and cheese, the type of food that sticks to your stomach. So, when I set out on this journey, I promised myself to stay true to my roots. So my specialty is southern food with an elevated twist to it.
What role do you think social media plays in food today?
Social media plays such a major role. It allows people to get an idea of what other cuisines are like. Growing up in Miami, I was exposed to all different types of cultures and cuisines. Social media allows us to connect to different cultures through food. We eat with our eyes so when you see different dishes, you become interested in how it tastes and wanting to try it.
