Shout Out Sunday. Interview With Rapper Jooby Truth.

How did it feel to win the Dutch Masters Spring showcase?

Winning the Dutchmasters showcase was amazing.  Being kind of an underdog in a new city was different for me, but being able to get a crowd to vote for me did to my performance was super dope.

How would you describe your musical style?

My musical style is lyrical yet melodic.  I like to keep it real and give an authentic feel, but still make it fun to listen to.  Almost like a medicine in the candy approach.  I always want to have a message, but still wanna make you groove.

What are the main inspirations for the lyrics you write?

The main inspirations for the lyrics I write are my day to day situations, my family, my friends, the world.  Whatever’s going on at the time, or however I’m feeling at the time is liable to be put in a song.  If I’ve never been through it, done it, or been close enough to it for it to have an effect on me, I don’t rap about it.

Artist you would like to do a song with?

I would flip my sh*t if I ever got to record with Andre 3000.  That’s the best rapper ever in my eyes.

Any upcoming projects that you would like to share with readers?

Yes I have an EP entitled “Reign” coming very very soon.

What song on your iPod would surprise people?

A surprising song on my playlist that may surprise people is The Tourist by Chilly Gonzales.  A lot of people don’t know I like Jazz.

How do you spend your free time?

I spend my free time with my wife and son.  If I’m not with them then I’m playin ball or watchin sports with homies.

Favorite album?

I can’t just pick one, but one of my favorite albums is Speakerboxx/Love Below.

Favorite food and restaurant?

My favorite food gotta be authentic tacos or fried fish.  Can’t go wrong with one of those. No specific restaurant.

What makes you special and unique?

I left what most would consider a “good job” to pursue music and some probably still would think I was crazy.  My geographical placement is unique in itself.  The rest of the game thinks “who the hell raps in Kansas City, Kansas?” But I’m one of a kind for sure. The melodies, the harmonies, the cadences, my voice, the content, everything about me is different.  In a era where the beat gets more attention than the lyrics, I feel it’s the best time to stand out as a lyrical new artist.  You will never encounter another Jooby.
