When did you first start singing?
Out of the womb, lol. I had my first church solo when I was about 7 or 8 years old and continued on from there.
How old were you when you wrote your first song and what was it about?
I believe I was 21 years old and I co-wrote it with producers by the name of Anson Dawkins, Derek DC Clark and my group member. It was called Send Me. It’s a song suggesting to God that he can use me to spread the gospel!!
Who are your musical icons/influences?
I love Kim Burrell, Brandy, Miley Cyrus, and Ella Fitzgerald. Shucks can’t forget Anita Baker, lol. They’re all dope to me!!
Tell readers about your upcoming album “The Heal” and your top 30 single “Try”.
The Heal is an 11-track album with sounds such as Soul, Christian Hip Hop, Rhythm & Praise and surprisingly Pop. Lol, that’s where “Try” comes in. It’s had some good success for the couple months it’s been on the radio. I’m truly excited about it!! My producer (TedyP Williams) and I wanted this album to be big in sound and lyrical content. We wanted to hit everyone. So millennials and they grandmamma can listen and enjoy too! It drops this Friday September 21st, so please go cop dat, lol.
What do you think about the internet as a tool for promoting yourself & your music?
I definitely think the internet can help in a major way when it comes to marketing and promoting yourself, PLUS ITS FREE! If you’re consistent, viral success is very possible as well. Going viral helps with making an awareness without a publicist. Again, it’s FREE! Lol, you also have a readymade audience with the help of the internet. The internet could be your downfall if you aren’t careful too.
Tell readers about your recent distribution deal with IndiBlu?
It’s dope to be connected to a machine and also have the autonomy to work as I please. I’ve known Gina Miller and a couple of the staff for years so, they look out for me too.
What was it like to be interviewed this year at the Sirius XM Stage at the Essence Festival?
That was actually my second time being interviewed by them there, but I’m very familiar with Sirius XM’s Meta Washington. I’ve been to the studio a couple times too. I love the Sirius XM Radio fam!!
What song on your iPod would surprise people?
I usually listen to music in my car and it either stays on Sirius XM’s Kirk Franklin’s Praise of Sirius Hits One, the pop station, lol. No lie, I LOVE POP MUSIC! smh (Shaking My Head).
What is the most heartwarming thing you’ve ever seen?
A man getting on one knee and proposing. Reason why, because for any man to give his last name away, means he loves that girl. That warms my heart.
Where’s the coolest place you’ve ever been/traveled to?
A couple years as a kid, I lived in Nuremberg, Germany. I’m an army brat. The coolest place I’ve traveled to was Miami, Florida! I loved the beach and the shopping.
Who is on the guest list for your ideal dinner party?
Let’s see 50 people total. Needs to be really intimate so I can meet my top three invites: Tank, LeCrae and Rodney Jerkins. I’d like to meet and possibly work with each of them.
What would be the most amazing adventure to go on?
Maybe sky diving? Big maybe, lol.
What was the most memorable gift you’ve ever received?
For Christmas one year (some years ago) my ex purchased me an oversized coach bag and hidden inside was some expensive perfume. It’s the most memorable because no one has to spend any amount of money on you, but he exceeded the amount I felt was an amount that a boyfriend should spend. He probably done forgot about that though, lol.
Celebrity crush?
Chris Brown, hands down.
If your life had a theme song, what would it be?
Heavenly Father from my album! When you hear it, you’ll know why.
