Three-time NAACP Image Award-winner Terri J. Vaughn and Braxton Family Values Star Evelyn Braxton will be honored with the “Woman of Excellence Award” at this year’s First Ladies Health Initiative (FLHI) maternal health panel entitled “It Takes a Village: A Conversation for Today’s Parents and Tomorrow’s Families.” This important conversation brings together healthcare experts, community leaders and advocates committed to improving maternal outcomes in women through education, support and collective resources.

The panel will be moderated by Marquise Alston-Allison, FLHI Co-Executive Director. Featured panelists include:
- Dr. Natalie D. Hernandez-Green — Executive Director, Center for Maternal Health Equity, MSM
- Dr. Charis Chambers — OB-GYN, “The Period Doctor” & Chief Medical Officer, Clue
- Dr. Sherika Newman — Physician & Founder, Doctor in the Family
- First Lady Robin May — Mental Health Therapist & Life Coach, Transforming Faith Church
- Tony Mitchell — Board Member, Atlanta Board of Education, District 2
This timely discussion will focus on the importance of community-centered support across the maternal journey—before pregnancy, during prenatal care and throughout postpartum recovery—while addressing barriers that families face and highlighting solutions that can strengthen long-term health for both parents and children.
“We know that maternal health is not just a medical issue—it’s a community issue, especially within the black community” said Marquise Alston-Allison. “This panel is designed to empower today’s parents with practical guidance from industry experts, while inspiring tomorrow’s families to build healthier systems of care.”
Woman of Excellence Awards
In addition to the panel, FLHI will recognize outstanding contributions and leadership through the Woman of Excellence Awards, presented to:
