Apple TV Welcomes “The Rise: WNBA 2024 – The Year That Changed Everything,” From Five 5x Emmy-winning Documentary Producer Taj Paxton

Apple TV subscribers can now stream “The Rise: WNBA 2024 – The Year That Changed Everything,” a documentary film directed by Emmy-winning documentary producer Taj Paxton, who is known for her compelling storytelling and commitment to highlighting significant cultural figures and LGBTQ heroes. The film explores the transformative moments of the Women’s National Basketball Association during a pivotal year and features exclusive interviews with basketball legend Candace Parker—who also serves as executive producer—alongside current players Napheesa Collier and Courtney Williams, as well as WNBAPA’s Terri Jackson, Jane McManus, Khristina Williams and ESPN/New York Knicks analyst Monica McNutt.

This groundbreaking series from Hello Sunshine originally premiered on Peacock and explores the challenges and triumphs that athletes face as they strive for greater representation, equality and recognition in the sports world. Viewers on both streaming platforms can now watch this powerful film, which promises to inspire and educate audiences about the significance of women’s sports and the larger cultural movements surrounding them.

“What I hope the Apple TV audience sees is how the film celebrates the players’ triumphs on the court and their battles off the court,” said Taj Paxton, the film’s director. “These players embody true leadership—passionate, strategic and brilliant. I’m truly honored that Hello Sunshine invited me to be part of this inspiring series.”

Paxton shares executive producer credits for “WNBA 2024” alongside veteran producer Patty Ivins Specht and Azon Juan Juaquin Cambron, while talent producer Melissa Chusid ensures influential personalities are featured throughout the series.

“We hope that the film inspires loyal lifelong fans to celebrate and relive the excitement of the season while also giving newcomers to women’s basketball a reason to fall in love with the sport, just as I did.” — Taj Paxton

The three remaining films — The Inaugural Season of the PWHL, The Gold Medal Girls of X Games and The Women of NASCAR — are set to premiere on Peacock later this year.

Hello Sunshine’s Reese Witherspoon, Sara Rea, Zoe Fairbourn, Sue Kinkead, Lyda Hill, Ty O’Neil and Nicole Small serve as executive producers for all projects. In contrast, Ashlyn Harris serves as a consulting producer across all five documentaries.
