The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Jackson State’s Shedeur Sanders, Alcorn State’s Jarveon Howard, Florida A&M’s Isaiah Major and Bethune-Cookman’s Darnell Deas its SWAC Football Players of the Week for their exceptional performances during games played this past week of competition.
Co-Offensive- Sanders had a career day during the Tigers’ 49-7 win over Mississippi Valley State. He set career marks in completions (40), attempts (51) and passing yards (438) to go along with four TD passes. Sanders completed passes to 12 different receivers, including touchdown passes to four different receivers.
Co-Offensive/Newcomer- Howard rushed for a career-high 299 yards rushing on 23 carries, adding four touchdowns on the ground. He averaged 13 yards per carry for the game and also caught one pass for two yards. Howard contributed scoring runs of 44 yards, 11 yards, 24 yards and 78 yards respectively while playing a key role in the Braves come-from-behind conference win.

Defensive- Major was a key contributor for Florida A&M making plays all over the field in the Rattlers’ 38-25 win versus Alabama A&M. He finished the game with a career-high 14 tackles (10 solos) and one tackle for loss.
Specialist- Deas made an impact during Bethune-Cookman’s 36-19 win over Grambling State finding the end zone twice during the contest. He scored midway through the first quarter on an explosive 97-yard kick return to put the Wildcats up 14-7. Deas capped off the B-CU victory with an interception return for a score with under a minute to play in the contest. He totaled 127 return yards during the game.
