Working Woman Wednesday. Interview With Pop/R&B Singer-Songwriter Brenzy.

Brenzy is a Virginia-bred, L.A.-based Pop/R&B singer-songwriter and musician. Brenzy pairs her soulful vocals with elements of classic Funk and modern Pop and R&B sounds. She has been killing the stage for well over a decade, performing in numerous venues in major cities and regions such as the DMV, New York, Philadelphia and Phoenix. Brenzy most recently showcased her vocal prowess at Breaking Sound Los Angeles. She has also been featured in various media outlets and has accumulated over half a million streams and amassed a sizable social media following. The 22-year-old songstress is taking over ’22.

How did you discover your passion for music?

I discovered my passion for music when I was little. My parents were in bands together for fun while I was growing up and they always held jam sessions and practices in our basement. I was exposed to the process of creating music from a really young age. I fell in love with it just by watching the process.

What was your favorite artist growing up?

Michael Jackson and Taylor Swift were two of my favorites growing up.

What would be your dream venue to perform at?

Madison Square Garden.

How do you feel about the internet in the music business?

Like everything else in the world, there are good things and bad things about it. It gives independent artists a huge opportunity to really work on building an audience without a push from a label or management. Which was never really seen before the rise of YouTube and social media! On the other hand, it creates an even more saturated market to try and cut through. All in all, I think it’s been an overall blessing to artists over the years.

What artist would you like to perform or do a duet with?

I would say Silk Sonic, but that would be more of a trio situation. I think Jack Harlow and I would make a good song together too.

Miami or Las Vegas?

I just filmed the “Brunch” music video in Miami, so I’m going to say Miami.

Where would you go if your trip was completely paid for?

Italy or Greece.

Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?

Listening to music.

What have you overcome in life that no one knows about?

I have an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto’s disease and it’s been a really big struggle that I’ve dealt with since I was 12 years old. I lost my voice for a long time because of it and was even told that I would never sing again. I wouldn’t say that nobody knows about it, but I don’t talk about it much unless the topic comes up.

What three things are you most proud of in your life to date?

My strength, my music and my work ethic.
