Shout Out Sunday. Interview With Photographer Mike Frost.

What made you become a photographer?

It was a hobby I picked up during the COVID-19 lockdown.  I ordered a camera just to give me something to keep myself busy.  I figured learning a new skill would help pass the time.  Instead of focusing on how bored I would be due to everything being shutdown, because of the pandemic.  Overtime I found a real passion for it, I found out how to do something I loved and in a few months I made it my full-time career.

Do you prefer indoor or outdoor shoots?

Normally I prefer indoors for my creative work, but originally before I understood how to get the looks I wanted in the studio I shot almost exclusively outdoors.  I still enjoy the outdoor shoot. It’s just much more planning as far as checking weather, time of day, location, etc.  I like having an indoor location that people can come to any day at anytime.

What has been your favorite shoot / campaign / work to date?

That’s difficult to say, aside from my creative and portrait work I’ve done baby showers, parties, birthdays, clubs, a wedding and product photography.  I’ve had a great time with all of it, but I love working one on one with people the most to bring an idea to life.

What’s your favorite social media platform for your brand?

I enjoy Instagram the most.  It gives me a platform to display my work and connect with other creatives to work, inspire, educate and elevate each other.

What was the biggest factor that has helped you to be successful?

I believe my drive to learn more and become better is what helped me grow as fast as I did.  I watched a lot of YouTube videos and other peoples work elsewhere to see what I needed to do to become better.  I wanted to become versatile in what I’m able to do.  Regardless of the request, I want to give a quality product.

Name something you and your grandmother watched together?

We watched a lot of game shows.  Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, The Price Is Right, etc.  Things along those lines were usually on the TV.

What was your favorite toy growing up?

Toy cars were always my favorite.  I remember my father giving me a model car at a young age and I wanted more of them.  Which also led to me learning to draw cars also.

What fast food chain would you want to live next door to?

I would probably have to say a Starbucks for a quick breakfast and coffee before starting my work for the day

If you could travel anywhere this fall, where would it be?

I would like to take a trip to Bali to explore.  I’ve heard great things about it and it looks like a beautiful place.  It seems like a place I would like to go to just relax and enjoy some time away.

How do you help your family cheer and encourage each other?

Just showing that I’m proud of them and trying my best to make it to events that are important to them.

What’s one thing you have accomplished in 2021 that you’re proud of?

Quitting my job and becoming a business owner.  I never thought that would happen.  Originally, I wanted to become a pharmacist, but in the end, I feel like that still would’ve felt like I was going to a job.  Now I feel like I’m doing something that I love that just happens to pay the bills.

How can everyone keep in contact with you on social media?

You can follow me on Instagram @ShotsByFrost.  Very soon I plan to start creating YouTube videos in the future also.
