Shout Out Sunday. Interview With Multi-Platinum Gold Award Winning Singer & Songwriter Jay Lyriq.

What inspired you to become an artist?

Being around music from since I can remember.  Seeing the way it made me feel, the way it made others feel, how it controls moods, happy, sad, inspired.  I would say music chose me to be an artist.

What was your favorite artist growing up?

Boys II Men.

How do you feel about the internet in the music business?

It’s definitely different.  I remember having to actually go out and work records to build the buzz, to build a fanbase.  Now everything is just a click away.  It’s a disconnect I believe between streaming artists and radio artists.

What would be your dream venue to perform at?

The Grammys.

What should we look forward to see and hear from you in the future?

The different shades of Jay Lyriq.  I don’t feel like I can be put in a box, so whatever I’m feeling at that time is what the people will get.  One day it can be a love record, the next it can be “She Different” which is available on all major platforms right now (See what I did there, lol).

If you could be great at one sport, which sport would you choose?

Football.  I was already pretty good at it, 4-time state champion!

What is the best movie soundtrack of all time?

All time? Sheesh, don’t do me like that.  I would say my favorite is the Soul Food soundtrack.

If 2021 was a book, what would its title be?

Delayed not Denied.

If you could run away for a day and do anything you want, what would you do?

Head to a studio on the beach, preferably Malibu, overlooking the water, doesn’t matter the time of year.  Pour me a double shot of bourbon neat of course (Blantons or Pappy Van Winkle, it’s a celebration right?) Que up some records and just vibe.  Disconnect from the outside world, non-documented, ghosted from all social media and just vibe.  Yeah, that’s it.

What invention doesn’t get a lot of love, but has greatly improved the world?

Windshield wipers, lol.  People don’t ever think about them until it rains.  You don’t appreciate them until it rains.  If you don’t have them, you can’t navigate through the streets safely when clouds cry.

What’s something everyone should experience at least once in their life?

Seeing what they’ve worked so hard for, what they’ve given up so much for and sacrificed for come true.  Keep going!

How can everyone keep in contact with you on social media?

Everything @JayLyriq850 come follow me.
