Tell readers about your Allusions by A.Lekay Swimwear and when did you start it?

In March 2013. just a few days ago that I started my company eight years ago. I was driven by pure innovation as I aimlessly searched for a high waist swimsuit to accommodate me. After having my son at 18, I was left with stretch marks. Although I embrace them, because it was a part of my motherhood journey, I did not want to share that with the world. I did not find high waist suits that accommodated me. As they say, necessity breeds innovation. I sourced my own fabric and designed a high waist piece. When I posted photos on Instagram, I received overwhelming inquiries. When the light bulb went off in my head, the rest became history. Still a bit unimaginable to know that Nicki Minaj graced the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine in my swimsuit, when at that time I had only been in business for 26 months.

As a business owner, what are your top three priorities?

Organization, presentation and engagement.

What’s your favorite social media platform for your brand?

I must say Instagram, it is so direct. Post a photo, leave a caption and use hashtags!

What are some of your goals for the future of Allusions by A.Lekay Swimwear?

Right now, as a result of a hiatus, I am strategically coming back to ensure that I have systems in place to help with the success, relaunch and sustainability of my brand. I definitely foresee an exclusive fashion show when the world safely opens back up, major retail distribution and partnerships with other amazing brands.

Arctic or the tropics?

Tropics is the TOPIC! I am a Florida girl!

Disney World or the beach?

Oh baby, BEACH me! I mean, I did just have a baby girl and her dad is certain that we will soon be annual passholders at Disney (chuckles).

What is the best comedy movie ever?

Norbit, lol.

You’re invited to a party. What are three things you want to see there and three things you don’t?

Hand soap and a water faucet, gloves, neatly organized and garnished food.

What is the one technology that has made the world a better place?

I would have to say cell phones, for the accessibility that was unimaginable 15 years ago. Wow, I’m telling my age, I was in high school.

What are the top three places you need to see before you die?

Let’s be clear, prayerfully, I will be caught up in the rapture. I definitely have Santorini, St. Tropez and Seychelles on my list. Can’t wait until I can share this feature with my hubby, lol.

What is your most treasured memory?

Well I would have to say giving birth to my children. Blessed to have been able to deliver healthy kids and experience childbirth. It enabled me to truly discover the unknown the strengths in many areas of my life that I was unaware that I possessed. Gives me chills as I reflect.
