Working Woman Wednesday. 10 Questions With Soul Singer Bonita Jalane.

Who or what inspired you to become a singer…

Music has always been a part of my life. Growing up in Brooklyn, I was surrounded by soul, gospel, R&B and storytelling through music. I was inspired by powerful artists who used their voices not just to sing, but to heal people and tell real stories. I realized early on that my voice was a gift, I wanted to use it to connect with people and remind them they’re not alone.

I would describe my musical style as…

Soulful storytelling. My music blends R&B, soul, jazz, and hip-hop influences. I create immersive songs that take listeners on a journey through love, healing, growth and self-discovery.

The main challenges in music today are…

The pace of the industry and the pressure to constantly create content can sometimes overshadow the art itself. I also see it as an opportunity because independent artists now have the power to build their own platforms and connect directly with their audience.

My dream venue to perform at would be…

The Grammy stage one day, but also iconic venues like Radio City Music Hall or The Apollo where so many legends have performed.

My long-term music goal is…

To build a lasting legacy through my music, winning a Grammy, touring the world and creating art that heals people and inspires them to keep going.

My favorite childhood memory is…

Spending time with my family with music always playing in the background. Those moments helped shape my love for storytelling and soul music.

A place that brings you peace/joy is…

Anywhere I can be near water or in nature. It helps me reset, reflect and reconnect with myself.

My perfect date would be…

Something simple but meaningful, great conversation, good food, laughter and music playing in the background.

The hardest personal goal I set for myself is…

Believing in my own voice and staying committed to my purpose even when the journey gets challenging.

My life changed for the better when…

I fully embraced self-love and realized that every experience, even the difficult ones! It was helping shape my purpose and my music.
