Is Tyrese Haliburton a Top 5 Point Guard in the League

Indiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton made his first All-Star appearance this season. He averaged 20.7 points, 10.4 assists, 3.7 rebounds, shot 49% from the field, made 40% of his 3-pointers and shot 87.1 from the line. Haliburton became the first player in NBA history to average 20 points, 10 assists and make 40% of his three-pointers. He finished second in the league in assists, he averaged 1.6 steals a game (most among point guards) and had 32 double-doubles (third best among point guards).

He scored a career high 43 points and made a career high 10 three-pointers in a 111-108 victory against the Miami Heat. He set a career high 19 assists in a 134-125 overtime victory against the Houston Rockets. Even though he only appeared in 56 games this season, the Pacers record was 28-28 when he played. The Pacers finished with a 35-47 record and five games behind the Chicago Bulls for the final play-in tournament spot. If Haliburton played in more games, the Pacers probably could have made it to the play-in tournament.

Haliburton participated in the NBA 3-Point Contest this season and tied the three-point contest record with 31 points in the first round. He made it to the final round and finished in third place. Since entering the league in 2020, Haliburton hasn’t shot less than 40% from three-point range. Haliburton has committed to join Team USA for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Recently Haliburton signed a five-year contract extension that could be worth up to $260 million with the Pacers. That amount of money and the way he played this season, he definitely won’t be under the radar next season. I’m looking forward to see how Haliburton does next season, after gaining experience playing for Team USA. The future is bright for him, maybe he will become the best point guard in the league someday and maybe he plays for Team USA in the 2024 Olympics.
